Cyclone Dana: Storm surge likely to be 1 to 2m height above astronomical tide, predicts IMD

As per IMD, the severe cyclonic storm is likely to cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during night of 24th to morning of 25th October with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph.

Cyclone Dana: IMD Predicts Storm Urge

The formation of cyclonic storm Dana has triggered apprehensions in the minds of coastal parts of Odisha which has witnessed the wrath of nature in the form of cyclones in the past.

As per IMD, the severe cyclonic storm is likely to cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during night of 24th to morning of 25th October with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph.

Apart from heavy rainfall, the IMD has also predicted that the storm surge is likely to be 1.0 to 2.0 m height above astronomical tide and likely to inundate low lying areas of Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore districts of Odisha and East Medinipur districts of West Bengal during the time of landfall.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into Eastcentral Bay of Bengal during 23rd to 24th October, adjoining areas of Westcentral Bay of Bengal on 23rd and 24th October.

The fishermen also should not venture into Northwest and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha, West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts during 23rd to 25th October, advised IMD.
