The severe cyclonic storm “Biparjoy” (pronounced as “Biporjoy”) over the east-central and adjoining south-east Arabian Sea moved north-north-east-wards with a speed of 5 kmph during the last six hours.

The cyclonic storm Biparjoy has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm and lay centered over the same region, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.

As per the IMD, the system is about 860 km west-south-west of Goa, 970 km south-west of Mumbai, 1050 km south south-west of Porbandar and 1350 km south of Karachi.

“It would move nearly northwards during the next 24 hours and then north-north-west-wards during the subsequent three days,” said the IMD.

June 8: Gale wind with speed reaching up to 130-140 kmph & gusting up to 155 kmph is likely to prevail over east-central Arabian Sea and adjoining areas of the west-central & south Arabian Sea and it is likely to increase and become 135-145 kmph gusting up to 160 kmph during the night of June 8 over the same area.

Squally weather with wind speed reaching up to 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is likely along & off Karnataka-Goa-Maharashtra coast.

June 9: Gale wind speed reaching up to 145-155 kmph and gusting up to 170 kmph is likely to prevail over the central Arabian Sea. Squally wind with speed reaching up to 40-50 kmph and gusting up to 60 kmph is likely over adjoining areas of south Arabian Sea. Squally weather with wind speed reaching up to 35-45 kmph and gusting up to 55 kmph is likely along & off Karnataka-Goa-Maharashtra coasts.

June 10: Gale wind with speed reaching up to 145-155 kmph and gusting to 170 kmph is likely to prevail over central Arabian Sea. Squally wind with speed reaching up to 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over adjoining areas of north Arabian Sea.
