The severe cyclonic storm Asani is expected to weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday.

The severe cyclonic storm lay centered some 500 km southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and 650 km south of Puri (Odisha). It is very likely to move northwestwards till May 10 and reach Westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts.

“Thereafter, it is very likely to recurve north-northeastwards and move towards Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast. It is likely to weaken gradually into a Cyclonic Storm during next 36 hours,” the IMD’s bulletin read. As per IMD, Heavy rainfall alert for 3 days in Odisha.

Wind Warning:

May 9: Maximum sustained surface wind speed of 90 to 100 kmph gusting to 110

May 10: Maximum sustained surface wind speed of 85 to 95 gusting to 105 kmph

May 11: Maximum sustained surface wind speed of 70 to 80 gusting to 90 kmph

May 11: Maximum sustained surface wind speed of 60 to 70 gusting to 80 kmph

May 12: Maximum sustained surface wind speed of 50 to 60 gusting to 70 kmph

May 12: Maximum sustained surface wind speed of 50 to 60 gusting to 60 kmph

Apart from this, the weather agency has issued heavy rainfall alert for several districts in Odisha in the next couple of days.
