The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued an alert for cold wave conditions in several parts of northwest India from New Year, i.e from January 1, 2023.

As per IMD, a fresh cold wave spell is likely to commence over isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi during January 1 to January 4, 2023.

Similarly, cold wave conditions are also likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and north Rajasthan during January 2 to January 4 and over West Uttar Pradesh on January 3 and January 4, 2023.

“Due to northwesterly winds from Himalayas over plains of northwest India, the minimum temperatures are likely to fall gradually by 3 to 5 degree Celisus over the same region during the next three days and no significant change thereafter,” said IMD.

As per IMD, there will be no significant change in the minimum temperature over several parts of East India during the next two days and rise by 2 to 3 degrees thereafter.

Under the influence of ‘Western Disturbance’ as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and induced cyclonic circulation over Punjab and neighbourhood, isolated to scattered light rainfall/snowfall is likely over Western Himalayan Region today; and the system is likely to move away from Indian region by tomorrow.

A fresh feeble western disturbance is very likely to cause light isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall over Western Himalayan Region on January 3 and January 4, 2023.
