Odisha continued to reel under intense coldwave conditions with Daringbadi in Kandhamal district witnessing mild frost as the temperature dipped below 4 degrees Celsius on Monday night.

Daringbadi, the Kashmir of Odisha, recorded the season’s coldest night as the mercury plummeted to 3.5 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest place in the state. The nail-biting cold condition in the area has thrown the normal life out of gear. However, the frost has attracted a huge crowd, including tourists.

"Cold has intensified in Daringbadi and frost is visible on the ground. Frost has thrown our day-to-day lives out of gear, we are unable to go out and do our work," said a Daringbadi local.

Phulbani, the headquarter town of Kandhamal recorded 4 degrees Celsius last night. Similarly, Koida in Sundergarh district also witness frost as the temperature remained below 4 degrees Celsius for the last two days. A thin layer of ice was seen on the ground, above the roofs of cars and houses in Koida.

While Jharsuguda recorded a new all-time December lowest minimum temperature with 13 degrees Celsius yesterday.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, severe cold wave conditions will continue to prevail in several parts of Odisha for the next two to three days.

As per IMD, north-westerly/ northerly dry and cold wind at lower levels is penetrating over Odisha. Under its influence, isolated cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in some parts of the interior and adjoining districts of the State during the next two to three days.
