The people of Bhubaneswar got a much-needed respite after rain lashed the Smart city on Thursday evening.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) had earlier issued a warning for light to moderate rainfall/ thunderstorm in several districts including Khordha (including Bhubaneswar city) and Cuttack.

In its advisory, the SRC had advised people to keep watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strike.

 

Apart from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the SRC has also issued a yellow warning for moderate rain/thunderstorm with lightning in some parts of Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Dhenkanal.

The alert was issued on 5:30 pm and the warning will remain valid for next three hours.

Earlier, the IMD had predicted formation of an upper air cyclonic circulation over North Bay of Bengal around September 18.

As per IMD, the monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Jaisalmer, Kota, centre of well marked low pressure area over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood, Sidhi, Daltonganj, Digha and thence east-southeastwards to Northeast Bay of Bengal.
