A ‘pre-cyclone watch’ has been issued for Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing heavy rainfall alert for several parts of Odisha in view of the formation of an impending cyclonic storm.

As per IMD, yesterday’s low pressure over south Thailand and neighbourhood has emerged into Central Bay of Bengal. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over southeast and adjoining east-Central Bay of Bengal by tomorrow (December 2).

The system will intensify into a cyclonic storm over the central parts of Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 24 hours and reach near north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts around December 4 morning.

As per IMD, several parts of Odisha will start experiencing heavy rainfall activities from December 3 night and the intensity of rainfall will be high on December 4. Red warning has also been issued for districts in the State.

Rainfall Warning:

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 Hrs of 3.12.2021 to 0830 Hrs of 4.12.2021)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Jagatsinghpur.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 Hrs of 4.12.2021 to 0830 Hrs of 5.12.2021)

Red Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely occur a few places with extremely heavy rainfall (more than 20 cms) over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Jagatsinghpur.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khordha, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Koraput.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Malkangiri.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 Hrs of 5.12.2021 to 0830 Hrs of 6.12.2021)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack and Puri.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Khordha, Ganjam and Gajapati.
