The wedding stage was all set. The bride and groom were on the stage to enter the holy matrimony. However, the bride backed off from the marriage at the last moment.

While you might think it was a heat-of-the-moment decision. It was not the case exactly as the bride backed off the marriage after she found the groom drunk during the varmala ceremony.

According to an Amar Ujala report, the incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district.

Reportedly the groom from Gauripur village in West Champaran district of Bihar had come along with his baarat to Turkpatti village in Kushinagar on March 7 (Thursday) for the wedding.

After the wedding procession was welcomed by the bride’s family and the bride and the groom got on the stage for the varmala ceremony, the bride realised that the groom was intoxicated and it was just then that she refused to go on with the ceremony.

Everyone tried hard to convince the bride, but she didn’t agree and started crying. However, the groom denied being drunk. Later, when the bride’s family came to know about it, they also supported her decision and called off the wedding.

However, the bride’s family demanded the groom's family to give all the money spent on the ceremony, but the groom's side didn’t agree.

Following this bride’s family held the groom and his family hostage.

After the matter reached the police station, the groom's family agreed to return the cash with mutual consent.

As per Amar Ujala, SO Anil Singh said that both parties have resolved the matter by talking to each other. I did not even receive any complaints.
