A massive landslide triggered by relentless rains hit Mumbai’s Bhandup area on Tuesday, leaving residents and social media users stunned. The terrifying incident, caught on camera, shows a slope giving way as mud and debris rush downhill, causing houses to crumble in seconds.

The video quickly went viral, sparking widespread concern about safety in rain-hit areas.

Narrow Escape for Residents

The landslide struck without warning, but fortunately, several homes in the affected area had already been evacuated. This quick action is believed to have averted a potential tragedy. Eyewitnesses reported that a few residents managed to escape moments before the landslide swept through their neighborhood.

“This mudslide in Bhandup should act as a warning sign. Thankfully, some of the houses had already been evacuated,” said Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad on X, urging authorities to stay vigilant.

Heavy Rains Raise Alarm Across Maharashtra

Mumbai and surrounding districts continue to battle heavy rains, increasing the risk of landslides and flash floods. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Raigad, Thane, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Palghar districts, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming days.

Authorities are on high alert, with residents advised to avoid vulnerable zones and remain cautious. “All necessary steps must be taken to prevent possible loss of life. Vulnerable spots must be audited and residents evacuated if needed,” Gaikwad’s post added.

A Wake-Up Call for the City

As torrential rains continue to lash Maharashtra, the Bhandup landslide serves as a chilling reminder of the city’s vulnerabilities. With more showers predicted, officials and citizens alike are bracing for the days ahead, hoping to avoid further disasters.
