Shocking racial abuse on Indian student in Australia's Adelaide sparks outrage
An Indian student in Adelaide, South Australia, was left with severe injuries after a vicious and racially charged attack by a group of unidentified men. The incident occurred last Saturday near Kintore Avenue when Charanpreet Singh and his wife were out to enjoy the city’s light displays.
According to sources, the couple were sitting in their car around 9:22 pm when a group of men confronted them over a parking issue. What followed was an unprovoked and violent assault that has since sparked outrage within Australia’s Indian community.
Recalling the harrowing ordeal, Singh told 9News, “They just said, ‘F*** off, Indian,’ and then started punching. I tried to fight back, but they beat me until I was unconscious.” Videos circulating online show five attackers punching and kicking Singh relentlessly, reportedly using metal knuckles or sharp objects, as his terrified wife screamed for help.
The brutal assault left Singh with brain trauma and multiple facial fractures. He was rushed to Royal Adelaide Hospital where he received overnight treatment.
South Australian Police confirmed the arrest of a 20-year-old from Enfield, charged with assault causing harm. They are appealing for public assistance to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects. CCTV footage from the scene is being examined as investigations continue.
The attack has reignited concerns about the safety of international students in Australia. South Australia’s Premier Peter Malinauskas condemned the incident, calling it “completely unwelcome” and “not reflective of the majority of our community.”
Support for Singh has poured in online, with calls for stronger measures against racially motivated violence. As the investigation unfolds, the community remains on edge, demanding justice and safer environments for immigrants.
