In a startling incident in Gurugram, a woman absconded with Rs 1.5 lakh cash and jewellery from her in-law's residence on the second day of her marriage, as reported by the police on Monday.

According to a PTI report, the sequence of events began when Ashok Kumar, seeking a suitable match for his younger son, was introduced to Manju by an acquaintance named Manish. Manju asserted that she knew an ideal match for Kumar's son and facilitated an introduction to the prospective bride's family.

Claiming financial hardships, Manju and an accomplice conveyed that the girl's family lacked funds. Despite Kumar's assurance that his family didn't seek dowry, he provided Rs 1 lakh and some clothing to the girl's family. Following a court marriage on July 26, Kumar returned home with his new daughter-in-law, Preeti. However, the following morning, Preeti went missing after a night of celebration.

Upon inspection, Kumar discovered that Preeti had fled with Rs 1.5 lakh cash and jewellery. Upon notifying Manju, the latter assured Kumar of attempting to contact Preeti. However, when Kumar reached out to Manju's accomplice, he was allegedly threatened with life.

Following which, Kumar filed a First Information Report (FIR) on Sunday against Preeti, Manju, and another individual at Bilaspur police station. A senior police officer said a probe is underway and the accused will be nabbed soon.
