Mumbai police save woman while jumping off Atal Setu bridge, chilling video caught on camera

Mumbai police and a cab driver rescued Reema Mukesh Patel, who attempted to jump off the Atal Setu bridge. The dramatic incident, captured on CCTV, showed the cab driver's swift action in grabbing her hand before she fell. Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar praised the officers involved.

The brave act by Mumbai police and a cab driver gave a new lease of life to a woman, who was attempting to jump off the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, also known as Atal Setu. The cab driver’s swift action saved her as he immediately grabbed the woman’s hand before she fell into the water body

The dramatic rescue was captured on CCTV. The victim has been identified as Reema Mukesh Patel, a resident of Mulund, a suburb in the north-east of Mumbai.

The video shows Reema sitting on the safety barrier of the bridge, waiting to jump into the water. Meanwhile, the cab driver immediately came to her rescue and caught her. The woman jumped, but the driver caught her by her hand just in the nick of time.

Soon, a group of cops, members of the patrolling team, also rushed to the spot and helped the driver pull the woman out.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar shared, “Responding promptly to an attempt to die by suicide at MTHL Atal Setu, the on-duty officials, Lalit Shirsat, Kiran Mahtre, Yash Sonawane and Mayur Patil jumped over the railing and rescued the individual saving her life.”

He also requested the citizens to value their lives and wrote, “I request citizens to value the gift of life and not act on impulse in such circumstances. Never forget, your loved ones deserve better.”

Worth mentioning, a young engineer had earlier jumped to death from the bridge. A CCTV footage caught him reaching the bridge by his car, parking it there before jumping into the waterbody.
