Man had 6 wives, none knew about each other; police suspect he has more

A man was recently arrested for having six wives. Interestingly, none of his wives knew about each other. There were instances of a man having a couple of girlfriends or a girl maintaining two to three boyfriends . But, six wives seems like a scene straight out of a Bollywood movie. 

Even, actor and comedian Kapil Sharma had only three wives in his debut movie ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karun’. But, this man seems to have crossed all the limits. 

The matter came to the fore after one of the wives came to know about his marriages and lodged a written complaint against the 33-year-old man. Acting on the complaint, Hyderabad police swung into action and arrested him. 

During investigation, police came to know that he had six wives, including the complainant and none of them knew about each other. Now, police suspect he might have more.  

The accused has been identified as Adapa Siva Sankara Babu, a native of Mangalagiri in Andhra Pradesh. Now, he has been charged with cheating, criminal breach of trust and marrying by concealing previous marriages.

Similar cases against him are under investigation across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for the last four years, police said.

“Babu targeted vulnerable divorcees on matrimonial sites. He posed as a software engineer working for a multinational firm with a hefty salary package. He would marry the women and, in a few days, disappear with cash and gold,” a senior police official said.

In her complaint, the victim woman from Kondapur area stated that she came to know about him through a matrimonial site in 2021. After a few meet-ups, they finally married. 

However, soon after marriage, he took Rs 20 lakh and gold ornaments and fled. In a similar complaint, one of his previous victims had approached R C Puram police citing a similar story.

Later police swung into action and arrested him from Visakhapatnam. He was then brought to Hyderabad. Further investigation is on, police said.

Worth mentioning, a fake doctor Ramesh Swain in Odisha had been arrested by the Commissionerate Police. Swain had first married a woman way back in 1982. He married another woman in 2002 and has a total of five children from his first two wives. 

Between 2002 and 2019, Swain started to target single middle age women after obtaining their profile on Matrimonial websites. Swain was arrested by the Hyderabad Special Task Force for allegedly duping several unemployed youths and MBBS aspirants to the tune of Rs 2 crore in 2011.
