The intercollegiate sports festival at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur took an unexpected turn when two competing teams got involved in a heated wrestling match.

A viral video circulating on social media captured Kabaddi participants resorting to using chairs to settle their dispute.

The cause of the altercation among the players remains unclear, but some media outlets have referred it as a Kabaddi match that escalated into a violent brawl, with participants wielding chairs as weapons.

As per the Dainik Bhaskar report, the confrontation unfolded during a Kabaddi match between Netaji Subhash University of Technology (NSUT) in New Delhi and YMCA Faridabad.

It originated as a dispute over points but swiftly escalated into a chaotic and violent altercation.

The purported video footage depicts students ruthlessly striking each other with chairs, while the audience, including female students, can be seen fleeing the auditorium in the midst of the turmoil.

As of now, there have been no official statements regarding the incident, and the authenticity of the video is yet to be verified.

On the internet, specifically on 'X platform,' various reactions have surfaced in the comments section of the viral video.

Some users expressed surprise and disappointment, with one user remarking, "They are the brightest minds of the country."

Another user humorously recalled a similar incident, saying, "Ye to kuchh bhi nhi hai abhi 5 din pehle humare batch walo ne jo kuta hai... Senior ko 🤣🤣🤣 raat ke 4 bje."

Others questioned the behavior, with one user commenting, "IIT kids fighting like hooligans. Sad. That too sportsmen. Where is the spirit?"

Another user sarcastically referred to them as "tomorrows role models." 

And another humorously pointed out, "IIT Kanpur invented a new sport, chair fight 😭🤣."

In the video, there were also individuals seen calmly sitting at a table, watching the violent scene unfold.

Additionally, a meme comparing the incident with another viral image circulated in the comments, with one user humorously stating, "This is me."
