All preparations for the wedding were completed, the bride was ready and her family was waiting to welcome the groom’s family. However, the wedding was called off even before the rituals could take place as the groom arrived very late at the wedding venue.

But the timely intervention of 181 Abhayam counsellor and police officials ensured that the couple got together and tied the nuptial knot.

According to a TOI report, the incident took place in Dahod District in Gujarat on Friday (May 5).

Reportedly, the bride’s family and relatives were waiting at the venue but the groom’s procession came very late which upset the bride’s side. Later, both families had an argument over the issue and the verbal spat escalated following which the 30-year-old groom, who works in a private firm, decided to call off the wedding.

The elderly guests present tried to pacify the irate groom but he left the venue with his family and relatives.

Following which, the bride’s mother called 181 Abhayam- women's helpline for help.

“It was a distress call so our counsellors went to the wedding venue in the village. The cops first tried to pacify the groom and then met the elderly villagers as well as the sarpanch who was asked to intervene in the matter,” a 181 Abhayam official was quoted saying by TOI.

Reportedly, the counsellors counselled both sides and tried to save the marriage of the couple.

“After a few hours, both the groom and bride agreed to tie the nuptial knots. The wedding happened on the same day and the girl happily left with the groom,” the official added.
