Foreign tourist shares videos of toilets in Indian trains, gets roasted online for attempt to demean Indian Railways

On social media, every now and then people come across videos in which railway passengers call out poor train conditions, bringing attention to issues like overcrowding and seats being taken by ticketless passengers. Adding to the issues, a recent video of foreign woman traveller showcasing the washroom facilities on Indian trains has once again sparked a debate online about the cleanliness and hygienic conditions on trains.

Instagram content creator Irina Moreno shared the poor conditions of the toilet inside a train while travelling on the Udaipur City-Jaipur Intercity Express. 

Irina, who is a digital creator, posted the video with the caption, "Western toilet on train in India, 2nd class. Train 12991."

In the video, she showed a 360 degree view of the toilet onboard the train with peeling paint, rusty faucets and a broken toilet cover.

Since being posted, the video has attracted significant attention, amassing over 5.9 million views and 53,3440 likes.

The viral clip has sparked various responses, with many praised her for bringing attention to the issue, while some criticizing her expectations. Many users also suggested her to travel in first class for a better experience.

"You are travelling in second class which is one of the cheapest forms available. I want to advise you to travel in first class to capture the real picture," one user wrote.

One Indian user commented, “Travel by vande bharat, shatabdi or atleast by express trains. You will see what we Indians travels in. Also, you will find a jetty there to maintain more hygiene. We are looking forward to host you better this time but please don’t do this shitty things just for some likes n views, thank you."

“I would request you, when you next time visit my beautiful country, please bring some money to spend there. Otherwise, this is how will try to earn by defaming others,” wrote another.

However, some users also expressed empathy for the traveller's experience and acknowledged the need for improvement in railway infrastructure.

In a follow-up post, Irina shared another video highlighting the conditions of a first-class train restroom, noting improvements in cleanliness compared to her initial experience.

However, netizens slammed the digital creator after she shared another video of a first-class Indian train. "Do you travel in trains or toilets," asked one angry user while another said, "It seems like you are obsessed with toilet."
