Manchester Bus accident
In a terrifying incident that sent shockwaves across Manchester, a double-decker bus had its roof ripped clean off after colliding with a low bridge in Eccles, Salford. The horrific crash, which occurred around 3 pm BST at the junction of Barton Road and Trafford Road, left 15 people injured, three of them seriously, and one reported to be in critical condition.
Dramatic doorbell camera footage captured the chilling moment the bus attempted to pass under the canal bridge, only to have its top deck sheared off. Screams echoed through the air as debris scattered across the road. Witnesses described scenes of chaos and panic as injured passengers, many bleeding from head wounds, struggled to escape.

Local resident Szymon Hundz and his girlfriend, watching from their flat overlooking the road, rushed to help victims after hearing a sound “like an explosion.” They saw two people fall from the upper deck onto the ground and assisted by bringing chairs, water, and gathering medical supplies from neighbours. Another witness, Stacey Morley, said, “It was horrific. I’m still in shock. I just feel sorry for the people and their families.”
This is reportedly the third or fourth incident at the same canal bridge, with a similar crash reported in April 2023.
This horrifying accident has once again raised serious questions about the safety of low-clearance bridges and the need for improved warning systems for drivers. As the victims recover and families come to terms with the traumatic event, authorities have promised a thorough investigation to prevent such tragedies in the future.
For now, Manchester reels from a chilling reminder of how a single oversight can lead to devastation.
