Dog beaten, forced to jump from 17th floor in Mumbai; disturbing video sparks outrage

A chilling act of animal cruelty has left social media users outraged and grieving, after a video surfaced showing the brutal abuse and death of a community dog in a Mumbai residential complex. 

The dog, an elderly stray cared for by residents, was beaten and allegedly forced to jump from the 17th floor of the building. The incident has reignited public anger over unchecked violence against animals and calls for stricter punishment for the guilty.

The Incident: A Tragic End for a Helpless Creature

In the harrowing CCTV footage, now widely circulated on Instagram, a man—reportedly a building security guard—is seen attacking the dog with a stick. Cornered and terrified, the animal eventually leaps off the balcony in an attempt to escape the abuse. The fall proved fatal.

Animal activist Vijay Rangare, who shared the video online, claimed: “An elderly community dog was brutally tortured and forced to jump from the 17th floor by a watchman. The poor soul died on the spot.”

He further confirmed that an FIR has been filed against the accused, but emphasized that this alone is not sufficient.

Public Reaction: Grief, Anger, and a Call for Justice

The video triggered an emotional storm across social media platforms. One user commented, “That soul didn't deserve to die like this,” while another wrote, “I'm sitting in my office cafeteria and crying. Dear Lord! What has happened to mankind?”

Many were also furious about the passive role of the building society. Some demanded accountability beyond the watchman, asking for action against the residential society and its secretary. One user said, “The society is equally responsible! Please hold the secretary responsible too!”

In response, activist Rangare clarified, “The society was cooperative—they didn’t tell the watchman to harm the dog, only asked him to take the dog down. However, instead of handling it humanely, the watchman harassed the dog for nearly an hour and eventually forced him to jump.”

While some viewers also criticized the residents for confronting and slapping the guard after the incident, the overarching sentiment remained firm—there must be zero tolerance for cruelty.
