In a bizarre yet telling incident that has gone viral on social media, a woman in Delhi booked an online bike ride just for 180 meter that would have taken just two minutes on foot — just to avoid a group of stray dogs.

The incident, shared by a witness on X (formerly Twitter), highlights the growing fear and frustration among Delhi residents regarding the increasing stray dog menace. According to reports, the woman, visibly anxious, refused to walk a short stretch of road near a residential locality after spotting several stray dogs.

Instead, she opted to book a bike taxi through a ride-hailing app. The post has since gained traction online, with many users expressing concern over the unchecked rise in street dogs across the city.

Social Media Reaction:

Netizens were quick to weigh in, sharing their own experiences and calling out civic authorities for inaction.

“It may sound funny, but it's a real problem,” one user commented.

“Stray dogs are a major problem in entire north India,” shared a second user.

Likewise, another user shared, “Spaying and vaccinating street dogs is 200% the duty of Municipalities. Rabies is one of the most deadliest diseases on earth.”

“Stray dogs are menace, when they attack in group can kill people, people should not take this issue lightly, complain to municipal corporations should be made,” shared another user. Many others pointed out that children and elderly residents are particularly at risk.

Despite repeated complaints from citizens and numerous appeals to municipal bodies, little has been done to control the street dog population or ensure public safety — making such extreme actions increasingly common in the capital.
