What was meant to be a casual evening out turned into a social media storm for a Delhi couple. On August 3, at Tubata Bar and Restaurant in Pitampura, the pair alleges they were refused entry simply because they were dressed in traditional Indian wear, a salwar-kameez for the woman and a pant–t-shirt for the man.
In a video now circulating widely on X, the couple narrates their experience, accusing the staff of insulting Indian culture and behaving rudely. “Why can’t we enter for wearing our own traditional clothes?” the man asks on camera, visibly upset.
The clip, posted with the caption likening the incident to the “British Raj,” quickly struck a nerve online. Supporters slammed the restaurant for “cultural discrimination,” with one user writing, “No attire should be a reason to refuse entry. This is unacceptable.” Some even called for the establishment to be shut down.
However, not everyone was convinced. A few users questioned the couple’s account, citing a photograph from the restaurant’s own public page showing a woman in Indian attire inside, suggesting there might be more to the story.
Hard to Believe this. Utter Nonsense already in full swing in India

Regardless of differing opinions, the incident has reignited a larger debate, should private establishments have the right to impose dress codes that exclude traditional clothing? For many, it’s a matter of cultural pride and identity.
As of now, Tubata Bar and Restaurant has not released an official statement. Meanwhile, the viral video continues to fuel discussions on the fine balance between a venue’s policies and the respect for India’s rich cultural heritage.
