To curb black money and stop the counterfeiting of currency notes, the Indian government took a drastic measure in 2016 of demonetising Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes. Moreover, another key objective of demonetisation was to flush out money hidden from the taxman. While people who exchanged the currency notes faced a lot of hardships, many others couldn't exchange the hidden money. Now that those currency notes are nothing more than pieces of paper, people having stacks of 'old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes' are disposing of those in the garbage. Recently, a video has surfaced on the internet that shows two child rag pickers holding bundles of Rs 500 old currency notes.

In the video, one of the boys can be seen sitting on a trolley rickshaw while holding bundles of old Rs 500 notes. He seemed to be quite happy as he had never seen such a huge amount of money. The person recording the video requests the boy to give him one note and he happily gives one. Meanwhile, another boy is seen standing close to the trolley while holding more bundles of currency notes. The second boy also seems to be quite elated. Another person asks for a note from the second boy and he also gives one.

The man asks the boy to show the bundles of currency notes so that he can click on some pictures. The boys happily flaunt the notes.

As claimed, the child rag pickers found bags filled with demonetised currency notes of Rs 500.

While the authenticity of the notes and claims couldn't be verified, several netizens raised demands that the Reserve Bank of India should give them a chance to exchange the money, so that it would aid them for their education and basic needs.

Though the origin of the video couldn't be verified, it is shared on X by Woke Eminent.
