In a bizarre incident, a bride in Kaushambi district in Uttar Pradesh refused to marry, saying that the complexion of the groom was too dark leaving everyone stunned.

According to a Aaj Tak report, the marriage of a bride was fixed with youth a resident Sherpur under Pipri police station on May 29. 

On the scheduled day, the groom reached the girl's house in a grand wedding procession and everything was going on according to schedule till the bride arrived for the varmala on the wedding stage.

As per the Aaj Tak reports, the bride after reaching the wedding stage for the varmala refused to put the garland around her groom as soon as she saw him.

The bride’s refusal left everyone shocked including her family. When the bride was questioned about her decision, she replied that she did not want to marry a dark-skinned youth. She also said that the groom was much older.

The bride's refusal for the marriage triggered a controversy, but she did not change her decision. 

Her family members tried to convince her to change her decision, but she didn’t give in. 

Later, a panchayat was convened and again a lot of effort was made to persuade the bride, but she remained adamant about her decision.

Finally, everyone was defeated by the stubbornness of the bride and the groom had to take back his procession without the bride.
