What began as a grand romantic gesture turned into an unbelievable tale of deception and heartbreak. A Belgian man’s 500-mile drive to meet the woman he thought was his future wife ended in a cringe-worthy confrontation with her actual husband. This bizarre encounter, part of a catfishing scam, left all parties stunned and has since gone viral.
Identified only as Michel, the Belgian man drove nearly 472 miles to the home of French model Sophie Vouzelaud. Convinced he was finally meeting the woman he had been romantically involved with online, Michel’s dreams were shattered when he was greeted at the door by Sophie’s husband, 38-year-old Fabien Boutamine.
The awkward encounter was partly recorded by Boutamine himself, who shared his shock in the video. “I have to film this because a man rang my doorbell and said, ‘I’m the future husband of Sophie Vouzelaud.’ Well, I’m the current one,” Boutamine said.
The footage shows a confused Michel grappling with reality while Boutamine calmly explained the situation. Sophie later reposted the video on Instagram with a warning: “I feel so sorry for this man… Beware of fake accounts. Take care of yourselves.”
Michel later revealed he had sent $35,000 to someone impersonating Vouzelaud online, believing it was her. The former Miss Limousin and Miss France 2007 first runner-up became an unwitting figure in this unfortunate scam.
The shocking incident serves as a cautionary tale about online scams and fake profiles. As Michel conceded, “I think she played a dirty trick on me,” Boutamine replied sympathetically, “It’s the fake accounts. You have to be very careful.”
