'Prostitution a cool profession' remark by stand-up comedian Vidushi sparks debate

A stand-up comedian has been receiving the wrath of social media users after she called prostitution a ‘cool profession’. Vidhushi in her gig made fun of prostitution and made some insensitive comments about sex workers.

A short clip from her gig is now going viral which has left the internet fuming. In the video, Vidhushi can be heard saying, “Prostitution duniya ka ek lauta aisa profession hai jahan pe experience ke naam pe koi partiality nahin hoti....”

“.......... Prostitution main unka intern bhi CEO se jyada paisa kama raha hai,” she adds. On the other hand, the audience can be heard laughing at the jokes made by Vidhushi.

The viral video has angered social media users who slammed Vidhushi and the audience for their insensitivity.

“Nothing is more dumb than saying Prostitution is a cool profession, ask those women who are working & going through these things. Those who are laughing  & encouraging her for her idiotic stuff , pls start using your brain,” commented a user.

Another user wrote, “This alleged comedian thinks prostitution is a cool work & should be encouraged... Modern day comedy is all about talking nonsense… I pity those who go to watch such idiocy & even clap on such ridiculous "jokes".”

Popular poet Kumar Vishwas took to Twitter and wrote in Hindi, “This is not only absurd but also inhuman. This insensitive joke is just a glimpse of today's so-called stand-up presentations that constantly make fun of cultural values. Fortunately, no male presenter did this cheap thing, otherwise, all the commissions would have woken up. Shame on those who laughed.”

Reacting to Vishwas’s comments, Vidushi wrote in Hindi, "This video is taken from a full YouTube video, so it does not reflect the actual perspective of the clip. Therefore, I have a humble request to all of you- before making your decision, please evaluate the entire video once."
