In a bizarre incident, a woman in West Bengal’s Howrah area allegedly persuaded her husband to sell his kidney for Rs 10 lakh, promising the money would be used for their daughter’s education. However, after her husband donated the kidney, the woman allegedly fled with the money with her lover, reports said.
According to the victimised husband, his wife had been pressuring him for a year to sell his kidney to improve their financial situation and enroll their 12-year-old daughter in a better school. With no other option, the husband finally agreed with his wife’ decision, thinking the money would be used for his daughter’s education.
He later sold his kidney and brought home the Rs 10 lakh. After his return, his wife asked him to rest and recover well. Then one day, she allegedly left the house and did not return. Her husband was shocked after he found the entire amount in cash along with some more was missing from the almirah.
With the help of his friends, the man and his family located her in Kolkata, living with her lover she had allegedly met on Facebook a year prior and with whom she had been having an affair. When her husband, mother-in-law and daughter went to the woman’s residence, she refused to speak with them.
Her alleged lover told them she would file for divorce, citing physical and mental abuse from her in-laws during her 16-year marriage. The lover further denied the woman taking any money from her in-law’s home, claiming she only took her own savings.
Kolkata police have registered a case and launched an investigation based on the complaint and video footage captured during the meeting of the woman’s lover and her husband’s family. They might question the woman and her alleged lover before taking further action.
