A young backend developer working in Delhi NCR has sparked conversation on Reddit after opening up about how his job has severely impacted his mental health. Despite drawing nearly Rs 30 lakh annually, he revealed that the toll on his well-being has become unbearable.
In his post titled “My high tech job is causing problems that I can’t bear anymore”, he wrote, “Since the day I started, I’ve been struggling with severe anxiety. A year in, it has worsened. I now face frequent headaches, breakdowns, and constant burnout.”
The techie described an intense and draining workplace culture. “The work pressure is extreme. We often work long hours even during major Indian festivals due to business needs. Sick leave usually just means work from home while unwell. No hybrid option, it’s five days a week in a toxic environment,” he shared.
Although he sometimes considers resigning, he admitted his fear of being jobless. “Going from a stable, high salary to zero income is daunting, even though I have no major financial responsibilities. The fear of not finding another role, especially when others with more experience are struggling, holds me back,” he confessed.
His post received a mix of empathy and advice. Some urged him to prioritize health over money: “A break now may save you in the long run.” Others recommended caution: “Don’t quit without a plan.”
Many echoed his concerns about NCR’s toxic tech culture, while others suggested exploring opportunities beyond the region for a healthier balance.
