Children are often asked a common question... What do you want to become in life? Well, some kids say they want to become a teacher, a doctor, a businessman or an actor. But a kid from Odisha’s Nayagarh district expressed his desire to become an IPS officer when he was asked the same question by the district SP Rahul Jain during an interaction ahead of the general polls in the state.

Impressed by the 7-year-old Ashish Swain’s desire to become an IPS officer, the senior cop had then promised to return to the village (after the polls) under Itamati police limits with a gift for the kid. The gift was nothing else but a police uniform.

At a recently held programme, Nayagarh SP Rahul Jain along with other senior officials reached the village and made Ashish the ‘little SP’ of the district. The villagers were also happy with the gesture shown by the senior police official. They believe that the encouragement by the cops will inspire the little kid and others to achieve big in life.

Besides, the initiative by the police may strengthen the police-public bond and help resolve several issues in the region.

“There is no longer the policing that used to be during the British period. There is no need to fear the police. The person, who does anything wrong, only needs to fear,” said SP Rahul Jain.

According to Jain, one officer from Itamati police station or constable will be appointed as a nodal officer for the village to look into the problems and other issues.
