IFS Geetika Tamta quit social media, stopped attending family functions
Cracking the Union Civil Services Examination (UPSC) one of the toughest exams in the world demands focus, discipline, and relentless hard work. For Geetika Tamta, fondly known as GIA, the journey from Uttarakhand to becoming an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer is nothing short of inspiring.
Hailing from Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, Geetika completed her schooling in Nainital before pursuing engineering in Haryana. At a New Year’s party in 2021, she made a life-changing decision to dedicate herself entirely to preparing for the civil services.
Realizing that social media was eating into her study time, Geetika deleted all her social media accounts on January 15, 2021. She distanced herself from family gatherings and social events, last attending one in February that year. Her resolve was clear, nothing would distract her from her goal.
In mid-2021, she moved to Delhi for a focused study environment. Battling personal challenges and mental stress, she adopted workouts and aromatherapy to stay calm and positive. During the second wave of Covid, she returned to Nainital, appearing for her UPSC Prelims in her mother’s jacket, which she considered her lucky charm.
After months of relentless preparation, Geetika secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 239 in 2022, earning a prestigious place in the Indian Foreign Service. Today, she proudly represents India, even participating in the G20 Summit 2024 in New Delhi, a shining example of determination and focus paying off.
