When one talks about legendary actors in Indian cinema, the name Paresh Rawal is bound to pop up quicker than Babu Bhaiya running after a kidnapped Khadak Singh. From intense roles in Oh My God as the philosophical Kanjilal Mehta to tickling our funny bones as the flirtatious Mambo in Garam Masala, Mr Rawal has shown a remarkable range — and more importantly, an irreplaceable comic timing. But there’s one character that has truly transcended the screen to become folklore: Baburao Ganpatrao Apte from Hera Pheri.
With his iconic white dhoti, bottle-thick glasses, and unintentional wisdom, Babu Bhaiya is not just a character — he’s an emotion. Fans still quote his legendary dialogues like holy scriptures: “Utha le re deva, utha le!” or “Yeh Babu Rao ka style hai!”. Naturally, when it was announced that Paresh Rawal would not be returning for Hera Pheri 3, a collective gasp of despair echoed louder than Raju’s debt collectors knocking at the door.
Social media, ever the theatre of modern revolutions, erupted with hashtags, memes, and passionate pleas. Die-hard fans believe, with near-religious conviction, that without Paresh Rawal, Hera Pheri 3 will be like Pav Bhaji without the Pav – incomplete and tragic. Some have even started online petitions, street flash mobs (true story somewhere), and fan-art tributes that range from heart-warming to slightly concerning.
In a truly bizarre twist, a parody video of former US President Donald Trump has gone viral, where a fake Trump is seen promising, in dramatic style, to bring Paresh Rawal back. “I’ll use whatever it takes – saam, daam, dand, ved – to get Paresh Rawal back in Hera Pheri 3,” the parody says. The internet, naturally, responded with riotous laughter and a flood of emojis. Babu Bhaiya diplomacy truly knows no borders.
Meanwhile, the production house, perhaps feeling the heat of a thousand disappointed fans, released a formal statement. They mentioned that Paresh Rawal had received ₹11 lakh as a signing amount and hadn’t shown any creative disagreements during the early stages.
In response, the ever-gracious Paresh Rawal took to social media to clear the air. In true gentleman style, he wrote:
“I wish to put it on record that my decision to step away from Hera Pheri 3 was not due to creative differences. I REITERATE THAT THERE ARE NO CREATIVE DISAGREEMENTS WITH THE FILMMAKER. I hold immense love, respect, and faith in Mr Priyadarshan.”
Basically, it was less of a creative fallout and more of a mysterious vanishing act — like the film’s budget, perhaps?

Whether or not Paresh Rawal returns as Babu Bhaiya remains to be seen, but one thing is clear — his absence has already created a void larger than Baburao’s pending electricity bill. The actor’s legacy as a comedy king is untouched, and fans refuse to accept a Hera Pheri film without his brilliant blend of cluelessness and chaos.
Here’s hoping, with all the saam, daam, dand, ved available, someone convinces him to return. After all, Hera Pheri without Babu Bhaiya is like a phone call without “Hello, Raju bhaiya?”
