The recent unrest and violent protests in Bangladesh caused the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina to resign and flee the country.

The unrest started as students’ protest against the reservation system for government jobs, but soon it turned violent. As per reports, the quota system for civil jobs in the country was unfair.

Under the quota system, candidates whose families fought in the 1971 resistance war against Pakistan were granted the chance to become civil servants.

The violent protests caused civilians and police to clash several times resulting in many casualties and deaths.

On August 5, 2024, the protests caused Prime Minister Hasina to resign and flee the country. Following this, civilians trespassed the residence of Sheikh Hasina, as well as the houses and properties of people belonging to her party and family, causing loot and vandalism.

Protesters were also seen parading on the road with the loot. The protestors could be seen with the personal belongings of the Ex-PM like innerwear, blouse, saree, fish, dustbins, furniture, TV sets, etc. One woman was spotted with a Dior suitcase that she had looted from the house.

Such protests have been widely condemned with demands pouring in to take immediate steps to protect Hindu families and others staying in the country.
