Social media platforms are now flooded with doctored Aadhaar and PAN cards featuring global icons such as Elon Musk, US President Donald Trump, and even legendary Indian mathematician Aryabhatta.

Fakes That Look Alarmingly Real

These counterfeit documents include every detail—high-resolution photos, believable names, addresses, birth dates, QR codes, and even government emblems. While a deeper inspection often reveals invalid numbers or unscannable QR codes, their visual authenticity is enough to deceive unsuspecting individuals. Cybersecurity experts warn that this kind of forgery could easily trick people in offline transactions or low-security digital platforms.

A Growing Threat to Privacy and Security

According to several reports, users are able to generate fake Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, UPI payment receipts, and even passports by simply inputting basic details into AI tools. This raises serious concerns around personal data privacy, potential identity theft, and the threat of organized cyber fraud.

Call for Regulation, But No Official Response Yet

Experts and digital rights activists are now calling for immediate regulation and monitoring of AI platforms to curb such misuse.
Despite growing concern, no official statement has yet been released by ChatGPT’s developers or other major AI service providers.
The misuse of AI for generating fake documents poses a significant risk to both individuals and institutions, signaling an urgent need for ethical oversight in the age of artificial intelligence.
