e-Aadhaar App soon: No more queues outside centres, you can update details from your phone
Imagine being able to update your Aadhaar details without waiting in long queues or taking time off work. That vision could soon become reality for millions of Indians, as the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) prepares to roll out a new mobile application called e-Aadhaar.
e-Aadhaar App: A Digital Shift in Identity Services
Currently under development, the e-Aadhaar app aims to simplify the process of updating personal Aadhaar information such as name, address, date of birth, and mobile number, all from a smartphone. This marks a significant departure from the present system, which requires most Aadhaar updates to be done in person at enrollment centers.
Once launched, the app will allow users to perform most demographic updates digitally, a move particularly beneficial for people in rural or remote areas or those who struggle to take time off work for administrative tasks.
AI and Face ID for Enhanced Security
One of the app’s standout features will be its use of Artificial Intelligence and facial recognition. These technologies will not only speed up the update process but also make it more secure. Instead of relying on OTPs or passwords, users will be able to log in via Face ID, minimizing risks of identity theft or account misuse.
Seamless Document Verification with Linked Databases
The app will also feature automatic verification of supporting documents by tapping into government databases such as the PAN system, passport office, and driving licence registries. For address validation, utility bills like electricity statements may also be accepted, further easing the verification process.
Biometric Changes Still Require In-Person Verification
Updates to biometric data, such as fingerprints and iris scans, will still need to be verified physically. However, the deadline for these mandatory in-person biometric updates has now been extended to November 2025, giving Aadhaar holders more flexibility.
