In a world often dominated by cynicism, a small banking error sparked a heartwarming tale of kindness, hope, and life-changing generosity. Chinmay Hegde, a Bengaluru-based entrepreneur and athlete, never imagined that an accidental bank transfer would lead him to transform a young girl’s future and her entire family’s fate.
It all began two years ago when Hegde unexpectedly received ₹50,000 from an international account. Alarmed and confused, he visited his bank, where he discovered that the money had been sent by Rizwan, a young man working in Saudi Arabia. A simple digit error in the account number had led to the unintended deposit.
“When I called Rizwan, he was in tears. He begged me to return the money, saying it was meant for his family. I promised I would,” Hegde recalled in a now-viral post on X.
Determined to ensure the money reached the rightful recipients, Hegde visited Rizwan’s family. The visit left him shaken. “Their home was crumbling. His father, once a construction worker, was in a wheelchair after a tragic fall. His sister had to leave private school due to financial issues,” he shared.
After hearing the family's story, Hegde’s father was moved to act. The very next day, they returned to the house. “My father told them, ‘We will take care of your daughter’s education.’ He paid her fees in full and asked me to monitor her progress,” said Hegde.
On Friday, that same girl scored a stunning 97% in her Class 10 board exams, 606 out of 625 marks proving not just her potential, but the incredible impact a single act of compassion can have.
Now considered a part of their family, Hegde was lovingly called a “real brother” by the girl. This touching story serves as a powerful reminder: sometimes, even a mistake can change lives when met with humanity.
