The internet provides a platform for individuals to freely express their opinion; and social media such as X (formerly known as Twitter), stands out as one of the largest platforms where people engage in discussions about various topics.

Recently, a similar situation unfolded on the internet as a particular hashtag started trending on the X platform that is- '#UninstallBookMyShow.'

Let's delve into why this hashtag is trending on X:

The 24-year-old Canadian Punjabi singer, Shubhneet Singh, also known as Shubh, is facing controversy before his 'Still Rollin India Tour,' which will take him to 12 major cities, including Mumbai, Hyderabad, and New Delhi, over three months starting in September 2023.

The issue started when Shubh posted a map of India on his Instagram story with some parts missing, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Northeastern states. He accompanied this with a message saying "Pray for Punjab."

This situation coincided with the Punjab Police's search for Khalistani terrorist Amritpal Singh, which led to the arrest of some of Shubh's followers.

According to a report by m9.news, these allegations have prompted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to accuse Shubh of supporting Khalistan and misrepresenting India's territorial integrity.

In response, the BJP has called for the cancellation of Shubh's performances and the initiation of a police investigation, as stated in the report.

In response to the controversy, a social media trend on X platform called 'Uninstall BookMyShow' emerged. People were urging the ticket booking platform to stop selling tickets for Shubh's concerts in India.

Many users expressed their displeasure, questioning the platform's business ethics and urging it to take a stand for India.

One user on X platform said, "If you're going to sell tickets for a Khalistani supporter on your app @bookmyshow, then you don't deserve our business."

As the response from boAt started to come in, a user wrote, "#boAt has taken action, now @bookmyshow needs to do the same immediately #UninstallBookMyShow."

Another user on the platform wrote, "I have uninstalled @bookmyshow. No one should support anti-nationalist activities #UninstallBookMyShow."

Later, following the chaos, BookMyShow took to X and informed, "Singer Shubhneet Singh’s Still Rollin Tour for India stands cancelled. To that end, BookMyShow has initiated a complete refund of the ticket amount for all consumers who had purchased tickets for the show. The refund will be reflected within 7-10 working days in the customer's source account of the original transaction."
