Today is the last date for filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the financial year 2022-2023. Taxpayers are required to submit their ITR by today.

According to a tweet by the Income Tax India, more than 6 crore ITRs have already been filed as of July 30.

On the same day, approximately 26.76 lakh ITRs were filed by 6:30 pm, as mentioned by the Income Tax department.

If you are a taxpayer who has filed an ITR and are expecting a refund, you can check the status of your refund online.

The government states that once the e-Verification process is completed, eligible users will receive their refunds in their bank accounts.

To check the status of your ITR refund, you will need your PAN (Permanent Account Number) and password. Follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official Income Tax e-portal.
  2. Look for the "Income Tax Return Status" in the quick link section.
  3. Click on "Check refund status," and you will be redirected to a new page.
  4. On the new page, enter your PAN and select the Assessment Year (AY) for which you filed your ITR.
  5. Provide the Captcha code shown on the screen for verification.
  6. Click on the "Submit" or "Check Status" button to view the status of your ITR refund.

Ensure that if you have chosen to receive the refund in your bank account, you provide the correct bank account number, IFSC code, and complete address details, including the PIN code.

Typically, the ITR refund process takes between 7 to 120 days after the e-verification of your return, according to the official ITR statement.

However, in some cases, refunds can be processed much faster, sometimes even within 2 days of e-verification.
