Transferring files between devices is now easier than ever, thanks to Google Nearby Share.

This feature was previously available only for smartphone-to-smartphone file sharing but is now available for both Android phones and Windows PCs.

Google has released a dedicated desktop app for wireless sharing, which will make it seamless for Android phone and Windows computer users to transfer files wirelessly.

How to download nearby share

To download the Nearby Share for Windows, follow these steps

  1. On your PC, go to this link: android.com/better-together/nearby-share-app
  2. Click on "Get started".
  3. Download the .exe file.
  4. After the download is complete, initiate the installation process by opening the downloaded file.
  5. Once installed, sign into your Google Account.

Note: The app is currently only available through this link, but it will be available on the Chrome store once it is rolled out for everyone.

Follow these steps to use Google Nearby Share and share files from a Windows device to an Android device:

  1. Install Google Nearby Share on your Windows device and pair it with your Android device.
  2. You can either use the share menu on Android or drag and drop files on Windows to share them.
  3. Select the recipient to send the file to.
  4. The recipient must accept the file before it can be downloaded. However, if you are sending files to yourself, they will automatically download.
  5. You can share various types of files such as photos, screenshots, videos, and documents using Google Nearby Share Beta.
  6. If both devices are logged into your Google account, file sharing is automatically accepted.
  7. To share files from Android to PC, ensure that the Nearby Share Beta app is running on your PC and select the PC from the available device list.
