Viral YouTube video claims to dry it within seconds
When water gets into electronic devices, it can cause serious damage because electronics are sensitive to moisture.
Water can cause short circuits, corrode components, and disrupt electrical flow, leading to malfunction or complete failure. For example, when a smartphone gets wet, it can short-circuit and stop working.
There are various guides available to address this issue, and recently, a viral YouTube video titled “Sound to Remove Water from Phone Speaker (Guaranteed)” claims that playing the video on a wet smartphone will expel water from the phone’s speaker. The video has over 45 million views and many comments suggest it works.
According to a report by The Verge, the video was tested on a smartphone that had been dropped in water, and it helped to some extent.
The video’s low-tone sound creates air movement near the speaker outlet, which can push water or liquid droplets out.
While this technique might help remove water from speaker vents, it is generally advised not to use your phone when it is wet. Instead, it is better to take it to a nearby shop where professionals can help.
Some smartphones, like those from Apple and Xiaomi, have a “Clear Speaker” feature designed to remove water. If water is present in the phone’s charging port or other parts, follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Recently, Apple advised against placing a wet iPhone in a bag of rice, as this can cause further damage and is not an effective solution for drying your phone.
