A new online scam has been detected in which a claim has been made that the Indian government is providing free laptops to students. Scammers are sharing a fake poster in this regard.

However, PIB Fact Check, a trustworthy source for verifying online information, has termed the claim to be fake.

 “A notice is circulating on social media claiming that the Government of India is offering free laptops to the youth under the Prime Minister's Free Laptop Scheme 2023”, as per the @PIBFactCheck Twitter handle.

According to the PIB report, a deceptive poster is circulating on social media and it entices people with the promise of a free laptop through a government scheme.However, it is crucial to be aware that this poster is fraudulent and can lead to harmful consequences.

The scam requires individuals to share personal information and regularly visit a linked official government website.

It is important to note that the poster contains poorly constructed sentences and incorrect grammar, indicating its lack of authenticity.

False Promises and Dubious Instructions

The scammers claim that the Prime Minister Free Laptop Scheme is available for students in specific classes and semesters for the academic year 2023-24, such as XI, XII, B.A-1st to B.A-6th Semester.

However, the government has not announced any such scheme, and the provided website, www.pmflsgovt.in, is not an official government platform, the fact-check found.
