Google's CEO, Sundar Pichai, introduced PaLM 2 at the I/O 2023 event. PaLM 2 is an upgraded version of their large language model (LLM) that offers improved multilingual capabilities, advanced reasoning skills, and coding abilities.

Trained on 100 languages, PaLM 2 is versatile across various tasks. Pichai highlighted its integration into Workspace apps, including Med-PaLM for the medical field and Sec-PaLM for security purposes.

Google has also been testing an AI chatbot to provide expert responses to medical inquiries.

AI in Medical

According to The Verge, in collaboration with The Wall Street Journal, Med-PaLM 2, developed by Google, has been undergoing testing at renowned institutions, including the Mayo Clinic research hospital, since April.

Google intends for Med-PaLM 2 to be a valuable resource in areas where access to healthcare professionals is limited.

While it is in the early stages, Greg Corrado, the senior research director at Google, believes that Med-PaLM 2 has the potential to greatly improve healthcare services, expanding the reach of AI in a significant way.

However, Corrado mentioned that he personally would not depend solely on the AI model for his family's healthcare needs.

Google's PaLM 2 LLM represents a significant advancement in language models, and its application in the medical field through Med-PaLM 2 is expected to improve healthcare accessibility.
