World-class sports complex to come up in Bhubaneswar, high-standard stadiums across State: Odisha CM

A world-class sports complex will be built in Bhubaneswar with a budget allocation of Rs 1,000 crore, announced OdishaChief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during the day-long World Athletics Bronze-Level Continental Tour competition at Kalinga Stadium on Sunday.

He also revealed that high-standard stadiums will be constructed in every block of the State, with Rs 4,124 crore earmarked for the project over the next four years. The infrastructure will be strengthened with the aim of enhancing sports facilities statewide.

Chief Minister Majhi said, “The Odisha Government will be constructing high-standard stadiums in 14 blocks of the State. We have also set up a budget of Rs 4,124 crore to be spent over the next four years to build the stadiums. Another sports complex will be built in Bhubaneswar with a budget of Rs 1,000 crore, which will be of international level. The athletics meet was of Bronze Level; I am hoping that we will be able to achieve Gold Level, skipping the Silver Level, so that we can host Gold-Level athletic meets in Odisha. Our Government will definitely be able to achieve this.”

Target to Host Gold-Level Athletic Meets

The Chief Minister emphasised that after the Bronze-level event, Odisha government has set its sights on organising Gold-level tournaments in the future. The move is aimed at positioning Odisha as a major destination for global athletics events.

Sports Minister Highlights Athlete Inspiration

Odisha Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj said, “Many athletes have come and several Odia athletes have performed very well, from Animesh Kujur to many others. This provides inspiration to our athletes as they get to witness international-level athletes from close proximity. They have also got a chance to associate with them, and it will be a memorable moment for the rest of their lives. In the upcoming days, we have the capability and efficiency to hold Gold-Level and Diamond-Level athletic meets in Odisha.”

This ambitious sports infrastructure plan reflects the State Government’s commitment to nurturing talent and hosting international competitions in Odisha.
