MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni is widely regarded as one of the sharpest minds in cricket. His tactical field placements, ability to read a batter’s intentions, and brilliance behind the stumps distinguish him from his peers. He remains the only captain to have won the ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy.
Beyond international cricket, Dhoni has also guided Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five IPL titles. Players who have played under his leadership often show remarkable improvement, leading many to believe he would succeed as a coach as well.
At present, Dhoni has not officially retired from cricket and continues to represent CSK, though questions remain about how long his body can withstand the demands of the game. It’s possible the most recent IPL season may have been his last.
The question arises—will Dhoni ever consider becoming India’s head coach? Former teammate Aakash Chopra thinks otherwise. According to him, coaching does not fit Dhoni’s philosophy.
“That’s a big one. I don’t think he is interested. Coaching is tough—it keeps you just as busy as playing, sometimes even more. After spending your life travelling out of a suitcase, you may not want to continue doing the same with a family to look after,” Aakash explained on his YouTube channel.
Chopra feels Dhoni is more likely to remain connected with CSK, possibly from the dugout, rather than take on the demanding role of India’s head coach. “That’s why many players prefer coaching in the IPL—it lasts just a couple of months. But being India’s full-time coach means a 10-month commitment. I’d be surprised if Dhoni agrees to that,” he added.
