Who can forget September 24, 2007, when the ‘Men in Blue’ under the captaincy of MS Dhoni lifted the inaugural ICC World T20 Cup in Johannesburg, South Africa? It was an unexpected victory as a team of youngsters sans the stalwarts gave India a taste of glory.

What made it extra special was the Indian team beat their arch-rivals Pakistan in a tense final at the Wanderers. However, the Indian team could not repeat the same magic in the 2010 T20 World Cup. Forget about winning, the Indian team was knocked out of the Super Eight Stage.

An infuriated MS Dhoni had then attributed the loss to IPL parties.

“Most of the players were fit and fresh. Players also need to be smart, not only about cricket but about other things going around in the IPL. We have to respect your body and give some time for it to recover because there is more to it than playing matches. Attending parties and travelling takes a toll,” Dhoni said in 2010 after India’s knock out at the Super Eight stage.

With the 17th edition of the IPL going on in full swing, the old post of MS Dhoni’s opinions has resurfaced once again on X, sparking a debate online.

Talking about MS Dhoni, the former India star called time on his international cricket in 2020 and has since been associated with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Under his captaincy, the yellow franchise has lifted five IPL trophies.

However, he stepped down as the captain this season and handed it over to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, Dhoni’s craze has only increased with the passage of time and his fan following has no bounds.
