PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Team India faces a rare home series loss as New Zealand leads by 301 runs in the 2nd Test in Pune. Glenn Philips and Tom Blundell push the advantage while India's past chase against England, thanks to Sehwag's aggressive start and Tendulkar's century, remains memorable.

Team India is on the brink of losing a rare home series after 2012, as New Zealand continues to gain momentum in the ongoing 2nd Test in Pune. The visitors are sitting pretty with a healthy lead of 301 runs and will look to add more with Glenn Philips and Tom Blundell in the middle with 298-5.

As people are writing off India to chase a huge score in their 4th Innings, it’s not like India have not done it before.

During a match, England set a target of 387 runs for India to chase on a slow-turning wicket in Chennai. The chase was perfectly set after Virender Sehwag scored a blistering 83 of 69 balls. Sehwag’s aggressive intent shifted the momentum dramatically. Gautam Gambhir too scored a patient 66 runs.

After the openers were gone, huge responsibility was on the shoulders of Sachin Tendulkar who lived up to the expectations by scoring 103* off 196 balls. Yuvraj Singh also scored 85* and the duo stitched a match-winning partnership of 163 runs.

In the end, India eventually reached the target of 387 runs.

This win marked one of the greatest fourth-innings chases in Test cricket history and held special significance for the nation, coming shortly after the tragic Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.
