Season opener of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 got off to a scary start at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan following a mishap owing to the fireworks during the opening ceremony. It led to chaos and the match between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars was delayed by about 30 minutes.

Due to the fireworks during the opening ceremony, one of the floodlights caught fire. The fire brigade immediately arrived at the spot to douse the flames following the accident which triggered worrying scenes before the toss. None has been reportedly injured during the accident.

The match was finally played and Lahore Qalandars clinched a thriller against Multan Sultans by just a single run win. Eventually, the fire chaos was left all behind.

Put into bat first, Lahore Qalandars rode on Fakhar Zaman’s terrific 42-ball 66 to amass 175 for six in the stipulated 20 overs.

In reply, Multan Sultan had a brilliant start. But they lost by a whisker thanks to a brilliant last over by Zaman Khan. Openers Shan Masood and captain Mohammad Rizwan had a 100-run stand. However the middle-order collapsed and failed to assist the captain.

Rizwan was eventually dismissed for 75 off just 50 balls. Multan lost three wickets in the last over and in the process lost by only a single run.
