Odisha Cricket Association’s (OCA) ambition of reaping rich rewards by appointing a high profile coach from outside the State became futile again as former India opener Wasim Jaffer resigned as the head coach of the Ranji team.

As per reports, Jaffer resigned from the post due to a coaching assignment from Bangladesh Cricket Board for their U-19 team.

Meanwhile, OCA has appointed R Srikanth as the head coach of the Odisha senior men’s team for season 2022-23.

Srikanth is a BCCI level-3 certified coach and he is currently working as technical director of Odisha Cricket Academy. He was also a former Ranji Trophy player of Odisha. He has been actively involved in educating the aspiring level-1 and 2 coaches of Odisha for NCA programs.

Jaffer took the responsibility as the head coach of the Odisha senior cricket team on July 23, 2021.  He was given the contract for the season 2021-22 & 2022-23. However, he resigned earlier looking for greener pasture.

Notably, under Jaffer, Odisha failed to make any impression in the last domestic season losing two Ranji Trophy games by an innings margin.
