Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli, the heartbeat of Royal Challengers Bengaluru and one of the modern era’s most passionate cricketers, has opened up about the most intense battles he’s experienced in the Indian Premier League. As RCB gear up to face arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings once again at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 3, Kohli revealed that clashes against CSK have always held a special edge, particularly on home turf.
Speaking on JioHotstar, Kohli said, “Over the past 18 years, one team that I feel we've had the most intense games with is Chennai Super Kings in Bengaluru.” What makes it even more dramatic, according to Kohli, is the sheer presence of CSK fans who travel in huge numbers and often paint sections of the stadium yellow, creating an electric, divided atmosphere.
“Playing against CSK in Bengaluru is something else,” he added. “Their fans come early, buy tickets, and take over parts of the stadium. It really adds to the tension and thrill.”
This year, the stakes are different. While RCB needs just one win to secure a playoff berth, CSK have already been eliminated after a disappointing campaign. With Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out due to injury, the iconic MS Dhoni has returned to lead the side.
Reflecting on the IPL’s evolution, Kohli said, “It’s been a long journey of 18 years and counting. When IPL started, I never imagined it would reach this magnitude. Every season feels fresh, exciting, and more competitive than the last.”
The veteran batter’s words are not just a testament to a celebrated rivalry but to the spirit of a tournament that continues to capture the imagination of millions. As Bengaluru prepares for yet another high-voltage clash, fans can expect nothing less than fireworks on and off the pitch.
