The greatest footballer of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo hinted at retirement from international football after his dream of winning the FIFA World Cup was shattered after African giants Morocco knocked out Portugal 1-0 in the quarter-finals.

The star footballer was seen crying inconsolably after the match as he made his way to the dressing room. Football fans across the world are left heartbroken as his journey in the football world is about to come to an end.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli who is a big fan of the star footballer poured his heart out and wrote an emotional post to pay tribute to the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Virat wrote, “No trophy or any title can take anything away from what you’ve done in this sport and for sports fans around the world. No title can explain the impact you’ve had on people and what I and so many around the world feel when we watch you play. That’s a gift from god.”

“A real blessing to a man who plays his heart out every single time and is the epitome of hard work and dedication and a true inspiration for any sportsperson. You are for me the greatest of all time,” the cricketer added.

Earlier, Ronaldo had opened up on the shocking defeat and thanked Portugal and World Cup host Qatar.

Taking to his Instagram handle, he wrote, “Not much more to say for now. Thank you Portugal. Thank you Qatar. The dream was nice while it lasted… Now, it’s hoping that the weather will be good advisor and allow each one to draw their own conclusions.”

Meanwhile, Ronaldo fans expressed outrage and came down heavily on Portugal coach Fernando Santos for not starting with the football legend. The 37-year-old legend remained out of the starting line-up against Morocco for the quarterfinals match after being dropped for the round-of-16 match against Switzerland.

He was left out of the line-up against the Swiss after coach Fernando Santos expressed frustration about his team captain’s attitude in the previous game. Although Ronaldo was reinstated off the bench in the 51st minute, he couldn’t inspire a fight-back.
