India fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who played a pivotal role in India’s World Cup 2023 campaign, was honoured with the prestigious Arjuna Award by the President of India Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday.

With 24 wickets in just 7 games, Shami emerged as the highest wicket-taker in the World Cup. Shami who is currently recovering from an ankle injury, received a stand ovation as he received the Award from the President.

After receiving the Award, Shami shared a video of the event on his Instagram and wrote, “Today I am feeling very proud that I have been honored with the prestigious Arjuna Award by the President. I want to thank all those people who have helped me a lot to reach here and have always supported me in my ups and downs.”

He continued, “Thanks to My Coach, BCCI, team mates, my family, staff and big thanks to my fans...Thanks to recognise my hard work…I will always try to give my best to make my country proud... Again thanks to everyone… Congratulations to others Arjuna award winners.”

Since being shared online, his post has been garnering lots of love from fans who heaped praises on him for representing India at the international level. However, it was Virat Kohli’s comment on Shami’s post that caught everyone’s attention.

Taking to the comment section, Virat Kohli wrote, “Mubarak ho Lala,” with a bow-down emoji coupled with a heart sign.”

Former fast bowler Irfan Pathan also commented on the post and wrote, “Congratulations brother ❤️”
