This legendary cricketer faces allegations of promoting online gambling app

Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram, regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time, has landed in controversy after a complaint was filed against him in Lahore. The legendary left-armer, whose deadly swing bowling dominated world cricket in the 1990s, has been accused of promoting an online gambling and betting platform.

Complaint Filed with Cybercrime Agency

The application was lodged by a complainant named Muhammad Fiaz with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore. In his petition, Fiaz alleged that Akram has been serving as the brand ambassador of a foreign betting app called Baji.

Evidence Presented

According to the complaint, both a poster circulated on social media and a video clip appears to show Akram endorsing the platform. The complainant argued that this has created public interest in the app and has the potential to encourage gambling behaviour among users. He urged the NCCIA to invoke the Electronic Crimes Act of 2016 and take strict legal action against the former cricketer.

NCCIA’s Response

A senior NCCIA official confirmed that the complaint has been received: “We will take action against him if the allegations are found true,” he told PTI on Tuesday.

So far, Wasim Akram has not responded to the allegations or issued any statement regarding the matter.

Wider Crackdown

The case comes days after popular YouTuber and TikToker Saad-ur-Rehman, widely known as Ducky Bhai, was arrested for promoting the same betting app. The development indicates a growing crackdown on online gambling platforms in Pakistan.
