Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni has defied all the levels of stardom, popularity and fan craze. The former Indian captain enjoys a crazy fan base that no other cricketer except Sachin Tendulkar once enjoyed.

The cheers and hoots in the stadium as MS Dhoni enters to bat are proof enough of his popularity. Not only CSK fans, supporters of the opponent team also cannot help but celebrate MS Dhoni’s vintage innings. Last night, was no different when MS Dhoni smashed an explosive 28 runs in just 9 balls against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Laced with two sixes and three fours, Thala sent the whole stadium into frenzy with the entire stadium cheering for him at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihar Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Fans who were waiting to see MS Dhoni bat, especially after his 20-run blitzkrieg against Mumbai Indians (MI) in just four balls, were not disappointed after his fiery 28 unbeaten runs.

After his terrific innings, MS Dhoni has created history and become the first player in the IPL to hold the most number of runs after turning 40. Earlier, the record was held by Chris Gayle who has scored 481 runs in his IPL career after turning 40.

Now, MS Dhoni has overtaken him with 500 runs followed by 481 runs by Gayle, 471 by Rahul Dravid, 466 by Adam Gilchrist and 164 by Sachin Tendulkar.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has also overtaken AB de Villiers to become the sixth highest run scorer in the history of IPL with 5179 runs.
